The number of deaths in road accidents is increasing day by day due to two-wheeler riders not wearing helmets. Considering this, the police department has ordered that all over Tamil Nadu, the two-wheeler drivers and those sitting behind should wear helmets.
However, this order is strictly monitored only in big cities like Chennai and Coimbatore. It has been neglected in many districts including Vellore.
Meanwhile, in view of the increasing number of two-wheeler accidents, deaths and injuries in Vellore district, District Superintendent of Police N. Madhivanan ordered.
In this regard, awareness banners have already been placed by the police department in important areas across Vellore district. In continuation of this, the traffic police under the leadership of Deputy Superintendent of Police, Vellore Utkota, Prithiviraj Selakhan, dressed as Mickey Mouse and distributed pen, key chain and toy to the motorists wearing headgear to create awareness.
According to the police, various measures are being taken by the police department to prevent road accidents in Vellore district. However, many people have died in two-wheeler accidents in the last 10 months. In order to prevent accidents and casualties, two-wheeler drivers have been advised to wear helmets from December 1 in Vellore district.
Two-wheeler riders caught not wearing helmets will be fined Rs 1,000 on the spot. Therefore, all the public should cooperate.
