As the Diwali festival was celebrated on Thursday, a 4-day holiday was announced for most of the private and government institutions across Tamil Nadu on the occasion of this festival. Due to this, the workers in the outlying places had gone to their native towns.
Already, people booked and traveled in government, private buses and omni buses while the reservation for Diwali in trains was over. At the same time, special buses were also operated by the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation to facilitate the passengers to reach their hometowns. Accordingly, 148 special buses were operated in addition to regular buses on behalf of Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation Vellore Zone.
Accordingly, 75 buses between Chennai - Vellore, 25 buses between Chennai - Tirupattur, 10 buses between Chennai - Hosur, 8 buses between Vellore - Bengaluru, 5 buses between Vellore - Trichy and 25 buses between Poontamalli and Vellore were operated from last Wednesday. .
In this situation, after the end of the holiday, the public has to go to their work and the students to school and college from Monday. Due to this, all the buses in Vellore district were overcrowded from Sunday morning. Especially, a huge crowd was seen at Vellore new bus stand to go to Chennai.
Similarly, the number of people going to Bengaluru and Hosur was also high. Considering the crowd, additional buses were sent to Chennai, Bengaluru and Hosur immediately. Apart from that, buses have also been operated in major cities including Trichy, Salem, Madurai, Kumbakonam, Transport Corporation officials said.
