Vellore: Vellore district is likely to receive heavy rain at one or two places on Tuesday and Wednesday and heavy to very heavy rain at a couple of places on Thursday, according to the Meteorological Department. Therefore, Collector V.R. Subbulakshmi has advised that the public should follow safety measures on rainy days.

A press release issued by him in this regard –

The India Meteorological Department has announced that light to moderate rains are likely to occur at most places in Tamil Nadu from Monday due to the Northeast Monsoon. Besides, according to various forecast models, a total of about 40 cm of rain is expected from Monday to Thursday, with a maximum of 20 cm in a single day. It is also reported that there may be rain.

Accordingly, people living in low-lying areas should move to relief camps in advance. Important items and documents should be kept safe in a waterproof manner. People should not gather at tourist spots, places of worship and water bodies during rainy season.

Stay away from downed power lines. Women, sick and elderly should take necessary steps. People should not use mobile phones in open areas during thunder and lightning. Avoid traveling. Unnecessary electrical appliances should be disconnected during thunder and lightning.

Farmers, fishermen, owners of four-wheelers and two-wheelers, those staying in hotels, planning trips, living in flats, industrial estates, commercial establishments, private companies, street vendors, construction workers, should plan and make preparations for heavy rains.

People should not believe rumors spread on social media. Follow proper precautions given by government officials. Children and boys should not be allowed to play, bathe or swim in water bodies.
