Collector V. R. Subbulakshmi praised that integrated Vellore district is one of the districts that send the most soldiers to work.
Inaugurating a camp on Friday to get digital lifetime identity card for ex-servicemen, she said:
It is a great event to launch this camp to digitally obtain Lifetime Identity Certificates for ex-servicemen. The reason is that it is necessary for ex-servicemen who have worked for the security of the country to submit lifetime certificates to get their pension.
As the pensioners are mostly senior citizens, it is very difficult for some to come directly and issue the Lifetime Identity Certificate. In order to overcome that difficulty for ex-servicemen who have sacrificed for our country and have done security work, an app has been introduced by the Department of Defense to digitally submit Lifetime Identity Certificates.
This camp has been held to create awareness among ex-servicemen. Through this, ex-servicemen can submit their lifetime identity certificates using this app from their location.
This project was made possible by the growth of our IT department. Vellore district is one of the few districts in India that deploys the largest number of military personnel on security duty. There are more than 30,000 ex-servicemen in the combined Vellore district.
It is a good opportunity to implement this scheme in our district which sends large number of soldiers for the defense of the nation. Therefore, ex-servicemen can benefit from this app by submitting their lifetime identity certificates from their respective locations, said Kalleyar.
Chennai Deputy Defense Accounts Controller Dilip Kumar, Kotatsia V. Balasubramanian, ex-servicemen and others participated in the event.
